Balance

Balance

BALANCE training helps maintain a high level of physical function by: supporting good posture, improving joint health and mobility, reducing the risk of injury, improving coordination, control and reaction time, and  establishing strong, stable and efficient movement patterns to enhance sports performance and make daily activities more comfortable.

Core

Core

Almost every movement starts from or passes through the CORE, the body’s center of gravity and the source of power for lifting, bending, twisting, pulling, pressing, pushing, running, swinging, etc. A strong core makes movements more efficient, more powerful and less tiring.

Cardiovascular

Cardiovascular

CARDIOVASCULAR fitness directly impacts heart health, endurance and total body function through the efficient delivery of oxygen-rich blood to working muscles. Vigorous cardiovascular exercise increases endurance, heightens disease prevention and resistance, plays a key role in healthy weight management and mental health and is one of the strongest predictors of longevity, brain function and aging.

Lifestyle

Lifestyle

Stress management, sleep hygiene, social connectivity and mindset are LIFESTYLE factors affecting overall quality of life. Choices made in these areas, among others, can support or hinder progress made in exercise and physical training.

Mobility

Mobility

MOBILITY is efficient, coordinated and pain-free movement of joints through their full range of motion with control and stability.

Mobility training sets the foundation for effective movements with strength and power. It makes your body resilient, more resistant to injury from unexpected and sudden directional changes or external forces, and it redefines what aging and activity looks like late into life.

Nutrition

Nutrition

Proper NUTRITION supplies the “raw material” used by the body to build muscle, repair tissue, maintain strong bones and joints, fight disease, grow, recover, heal and perform optimally. It affects mood, focus, concentration, total brain function and is integral to healthy weight management and healthy body composition.

Resistance Training

Resistance Training

RESISTANCE TRAINING builds muscular strength and endurance to support bone health, prevent injuries, improve athletic performance and maintain functional independence. It also improves insulin sensitivity and enhances metabolism for healthy weight management and body composition.

Balance

Balance

BALANCE is about maintaining second-nature coordination and control of your body when at rest and when in motion.

Training for balance supports good posture, improves joint health and mobility and establishes strong, stable and efficient movement patterns that enhance performance in sports and make daily activities more comfortable.

Balance training also helps you reduce your risk of injury by linking your brain, muscles and nervous system together to create a sensory feedback loop that improves awareness of your body's position in space allowing you to respond more quickly to expected and unexpected changes in position and surface.

Core

Core

Almost every movement—lifting, bending, twisting, running—starts from or passes through the CORE, the body’s center of gravity. "The core," defined as the abdominals, obliques, lower back, pelvic floor (the group of muscles supporting the pelvic organs) and hips, is the powerhouse behind movement.

A strong core makes movements more efficient, more powerful and less tiring. It contributes to greater efficiency and endurance in cardiovascular exercise, resistance training, balance work, calisthenics and mobility.

About

I’m a long-time endurance runner and long distance cyclist (30+ years) credentialed as a NASM Certified Personal Trainer since 2023.

Now, in the back half of my 50s, my athletic focus has shifted from chasing numbers, personal accomplishments and my younger self to functional fitness, efficient and proper movement patterns and challenging the conventional wisdom about aging. What we typically accept as normal aging is actually accelerated aging, and it's a result of lifestyle choices we make based on convenience and lack of information, understanding and time. I want to change that for you.

I emphasize mobility, core strength and healthy eating with my clients and pepper that fitness recipe with aerobic exercise, high-intensity interval training, resistance training, as interested, desired or appropriate.
